World Tour Leg 12 - Tunis to Monastir

I went soon to bed. I had a huge headache from the trip of the day before. But now it was 6:00 am, fresh wind in a place that usually gets quite hot. Five new passangers were waiting for me next to the apron. The flight would be short, just 80 nm.

I took off from runway 11, while other traffics were on ground, waiting for my departure. It was actually tricky. There was a moderate headwind with gusts up to 22 kt, so I decided to get more speed on the runway and ascend quickly, preventing any turbulence next to the ground.

As soon as the ascent was positive and the runway was behind me I turned right to cross the amazing Tunis lake and arrived to CE1 and CE points for VFR navigation. Behind we left Tunis, the stunning capital of Tunisia and the largest city of the country. Originally, Tunis was a settlement of Berber people. Soon, Carthage controled this settlement. Since then, the history of Carthage is the history of Tunis. Its Medina has been declared World Heritage Site and there are plenty of interesting points in the city that shouldn't be missed.

But we were flying already far from it. After Boukornine National Park I headed south east, following A1 highway towards Hammamet. In between, green hills and fields.

Hammamet, a beautiful coastal town full of small white houses is located at the beginning of a long curved beach that is followed by a narrow forest and enlongated lakes for several miles, until Soussa, an important city of Tunisia, and our BN point to approach runway 07.

And another awesome approach, with the runway fully surrounded by a salt evaporation pond. It was difficult to focus on the landing, but it was soft as butter.

Now, a couple of hours to rest and to prepare the next trip. There is half a ton of industrial material that has to be delivered to a lost place in Libya. But the details, on the following entry of this diary.
