World Tour Leg 18 - Tobruk to Sidi Barrani

The plane now was lighter. Only 300 kg of freight, compared with the previous 500 kg. So it rised fast in the air as I was climbing from runway 33. A bit of stability at about 1000 ft AGL and turn right, towards the coast.

Instead of flying directly to the shoreline I kept some distance and followed a parallel road, until reaching Bardia, an important fort in both World Wars. This part of the coast was quite interesting, with obvious strong erosion and scattered houses protected by tall sand walls.

And between Bardia and the next town, Sollum, the border. Sollum, populated by Bedouins, is the first city of Egypt, a country I plan to spend some time on. But this will be near the Nile river. By now, let's enjoy the nice location of Sollum and the long beach leading to Sidi Barrani.

Few miles inland there is an airfield with 2 runways. 33L will be mine, after a confortable left traffic pattern.

In summary, after the windy and cloudy legs in Morocco, Argel and north of Tunisia, I spent several legs flying over Libyan coast with confortable tailwind and no clouds at all. I expect the situation to be the same for 1 or 2 more legs. Then, the Nile.
